With former customers including Beethoven, Richard Strauss and Charles Dickens and more recently Jools Holland, Jamie Cullum, David Gray and Chris Martin, the world famous Chappell of Bond Street Music Store celebrates the opening of a new chapter.Chappell of Bond Street has always played an important role in the musical and cultural life of London and now, with its relocation to the historic Novello building at 152-160 Wardour Street, the award winning Store is set to enter its most exciting phase since it’s foundation in 1811. The landmark, Grade II listed building has been wonderfully restored, with three floors of inspiring retail space and houses one of the world’s most extensive collections of printed music and the most comprehensive display of Yamaha instruments in the U.K. The relocation also sees Chappell further extend their remarkable 26 year relationship with Yamaha, with the launch of Yamaha London. The new store will function as Yamaha’s own national showcase, with a considerably enlarged range of Yamaha instruments, supported by Yamaha trained staff and Chappell’s high quality service. The new store will challenge preconceptions of traditional music instrument retailing and allow the new location to play a developing role in the artistic and musical life of the capital, offering a unique combination of instruments, educational masterclasses and live music throughout the year. ![]() At the heart of the complex, there is an extraordinary, oak-panelled piano hall, where consumers and professionals can try pianos ranging from small uprights to a full 9 ft. Concert Grand Piano. This stunning space embraces a vibrant, natural acoustic which provides the perfect setting for piano selection. Lunchtime recitals are also planned for this floor. The internationally renowned printed music department has become even bigger at the new store and now stocks around 40,000 titles. Chappell’s well earned reputation as the U.K.’s pre-eminent printed music store is based on a combination of depth of choice and extremely knowledgeable staff. This Department was recently awarded the prestigious accolade of ‘Printed Music Retailer of The Year’ by the Music Industries Association. Chappell of Bond Street ships printed music all over the world to regular customers, in addition to providing a wonderful environment for personal shoppers. A new e-commerce website will be launched in the New Year, enabling a further significant expansion of this operation. The Ground Floor provides the setting for an exciting and enlarged display of Guitars, Brass and Woodwind, Keyboards, Digital Pianos, Electronic Percussion, Music Technology and Pro Audio products, complete with trial rooms.Store Manager Nigel Hill comments "The new three storey location allows us to plan for the future with renewed confidence; the Chappell offer is now unique. A blend of expert staff, a phenomenal range of instruments and sheet music together with our well known commitment to supporting emerging talents will all combine to create one of the most vibrant musical experiences anywhere in the world. This is more than a music store, we are seeing more and more people of all ages with a real desire to develop their love of listening to music into something more and Wardour Street will offer the complete musical package to this exciting new market and our huge constituency of loyal customers.” www.chappellofbondstreet.co.uk November 2006 |
