Sibelius Software – the leader in music notation software – has assembled a star-studded panel to judge their first National Young Film Composer Competition – a nationwide search for tomorrow’s scoring legends. David Arnold (pictured right) , Lord Puttnam, Harry Gregson-Williams, Michael Price and Patrick Doyle have all recognised the importance of the competition and volunteered to be judges. Between them, these composers have created the soundtracks to the Harry Potter films, Shrek, Independence Day, Love Actually and countless more blockbusters.Music teachers across the UK have been sent a pack inviting them to enter students in the competition. To enter, students have to compose an original piece of music to accompany a short video clip. Winners and runners-up will be announced at an awards ceremony in London during March 2007. Prizes on offer to students include £500 cash, a day in the studio with a film score composer and a film scoring masterclass. “Sibelius is widely used by this generation of film and TV score composers, and we are very excited about trying to find the next,” says Alison Kerr, COO of Sibelius Software. “We visit UK schools all the time and see some incredibly talented music students who are very interested in film and TV. We hope this competition will help shine a spotlight on this talent and give their future careers a boost.” www.sibelius.com November 2006 |
