Prize winning composer, arranger, orchestrator. Writes accessible but uncompromising music, often with popular and folk music cross-currents. Has worked a lot with amateur theatre companies so is sympathetic to the ideals and skills of non-professional music makers. Most of his commissions get picked up and played a lot - his Secret Love Songs for Trombone Quartet for example has been played over a hundred times in four years and has become a required piece in international quartet competitions. A number of commercial recordings are under way with Sony/BMG and NMC.Gary has won the British Composer Award 2006 -‘chamber’ category - for his Azaleas for harp, violin and ‘cello. |
